Karl Toosbuy (1897-1959) was a Danish shoemaker and the founder of the global shoe company, ECCO. Born in a small town in Denmark, Toosbuy began his career as an apprentice shoemaker at the age of 14. He later worked for several Danish shoe companies before starting his own business in 1963.
Toosbuy's vision for ECCO was to create comfortable, high-quality shoes that were both stylish and functional. He pioneered a unique approach to shoemaking that involved using direct injection molding to create shoe soles that were both durable and flexible. This approach allowed ECCO to produce shoes that were more comfortable and longer-lasting than traditional footwear.
Today, ECCO is a global brand with over 20,000 employees and more than 2,200 stores worldwide. Toosbuy's legacy as a visionary shoemaker continues to inspire the company's commitment to innovation and sustainability. ECCO is also known for its philanthropic efforts, which include supporting environmental initiatives and helping communities in need.
